After four months at home in California, I am back in Edinburgh. I have been here for about three weeks. In that time, I went to Leith, which is a district just north of Edinburgh on the Firth of Forth. Leith used to be a fishing village and was Edinburgh's main port as well as leading the country in glassware, soap, wine, whisky, ship-building, whaling, and other industries.
I went with a photography group to a port in Leith to take pictures of the sunset. We got there early and explored the area a little first. Here are a few of my favorite shots:
Leith port is beautiful. A cobbled walkway stretches parallel to the water, and at the start of the walkway stands a small but sturdy lighthouse. There is a restaurant next to the walkway with outdoor seating overlooking the water. We didn't eat there that night, but it would be nice to go back someday and watch the sunset over dinner.
The water stretches as far as the eye can see, and is so still that the sky is almost perfectly mirrored on its glassy surface. The reflection made the effect of the sunset doubly stunning; looking out, all I could see were clouds, sky, and light, both up and down. We were literally surrounded by the colors of the day melding into night.
