After finishing our exams, two of my friends and I decided to take a trip to the west coast of Scotland. One friend's sister is studying in Dunbeg, near Oban, and kindly lent us her dorm room to sleep in, so we took the train from Edinburgh to Glasgow, Glasgow to Oban, and all piled into her room with sleeping bags and air mattresses.
Our first day, we went for a full Scottish breakfast, then took a ferry to the Isle of Mull. From there, we took a bus to Tobermory, a place made famous (in the UK at least) because there's a kids' tv show, 'Balamory', which was filmed there. My friend watched the show when she was young and recognised all the places from there. We also hiked to a small (very small) waterfall. The landscape looks kind of like a fairytale in spring/summer, all bright green grass with tiny purple and white flowers, and soft sun filtering through tall trees, and mossy rocks lining water.
We went to watch the sunset afterwards. Over the water, the light was reflected everywhere.
The next day we went snorkeling in the sea, which was very cold. Luckily, there were enough wetsuits for each of us to have one, so really only the hands and head were frozen. We didn't go very far out, so there wasn't much sea life - I saw one small fish - but it was still fun to swim around a bit. After snorkeling, we went into Oban for dinner and drinks.
This was a short trip, and our last day we spent walking around Oban before our train back. We climbed up the hill to McCaig's tower and to see the views, and then had waffles at the Oban chocolate shop. 👌🏻
