Hi.

Welcome! I am a California girl who has lived in Scotland and Mozambique - follow my adventures here!

San Francisco has long been known as the Fog City, and once you've been there, its easy to see why. The proximity of the city to the Pacific ocean provides the perfect blend of land/sea air and temperature for the fog to roll in, sometimes enveloping the entire Bay Area. The fog can hang in one massive cloud over the city or roll in in sheets, sometimes seeming to flow as smoothly as water over the bay. As a Bay Area native, I am fairly used to the wet, grey skies, and even enjoy waking up to the sound of mist dripping off the trees outside my window. So, I was happy to find that there is almost as much fog here in Edinburgh as there was in the Bay Area. The big difference is that in Oakland, the fog generally burns off in the afternoon, revealing a bright and beautiful day, while here in Edinburgh it can be grey for days. Here are some surprisingly similar photos of both the Bay Bridge and the bridge spanning the Firth of Forth. It's interesting to me to find that the place where I chose to live resembles, in many ways, the place where I grew up. Maybe it was meant to be...
