Cramond Foreshore Stroke Resolution Run 10k

Cramond Foreshore Stroke Resolution Run 10k

A few weeks ago, my friend Patty asked me if I wanted to run the Cramond Foreshore 5k, a run which raises funds to support stroke victims and research. I agreed, but decided to do the 10k, and my flatmate Vicky decided to do it with me. The timing was a little unfortunate, because I had strength training testing on Friday and a social Saturday night, so I was sore and tired when I woke up Sunday morning for the run, but the weather was nice and I was with friends so it was all right.

Cramond Foreshore is a walkway along the coastline near Cramond Island. Cramond is one of the oldest villages in Edinburgh, and it's very pretty. There is a concrete pathway that follows the coast line, and this is where we ran. The shoreline path gives views across the Forth, and you can see the Fife coast and, far away, the North Berwick Law, which coincidentally I recently walked up when my mom was visiting. There is a path that links the foreshore to Cramond Island when the tide is out, and the path we ran was surrounded by patches of sycamores, ash trees, elder trees, and hawthorn. All in all, it was very pretty, and the sea breeze and sound of waves worked to wake me up and clear my head.

The run was two loops, each 5k. I completed the 10k with a 9.28 minute mile average (thanks to the Runkeeper app, I know exactly what my average is!) and with a total time of 57 minutes. This is not my best time, but I prefer to run on technical trails rather than flat roads, so I put it down to lack of inspiration and the aforementioned difficulties of a rough night and soreness. Overall, it was a great run with friends supporting a good cause, and a good way to start a Sunday!

After the run, Vicky and I got pizzas to celebrate.
