Hi.

Welcome! I am a California girl who has lived in Scotland and Mozambique - follow my adventures here!

Humani Part 3: In the Bush

And finally, here is part three of the photo journals showing my trip to Humani. These are assorted photos from the game drives we went on.

I’ll start with some trees. I love trees - so beautiful.

This is actually Anne’s photo but I love it as I think it shows the landscape so well.

Here is a big baobab I saw with Roger. The elephants have caused considerable damage to the trunk, which Roger told me they eat for its nutrients. See the big hole in the middle?

Beautiful baobab tree at dusk.

There were so many giraffe on the roads on this trip.

With a little tick eating bird on its head.

Paint splatter patterns.

All in the road, wondering what we are doing coming down towards them.

A jackal chilling.

Mother and baby wildebeest.

Sable in the rain - my favorite.

A kudu in the brush.

Some eland we saw on foot - part of a herd of about 200. The noise when they ran away was like wind in tall grass.

Big ol croc

Lion in the brush. Anne and Roger and I had to bushwhack to see this lion, who was in a pair with one other male. Roger knew just how to find them.

Then of course there are all the birds!

This is also Anne’s photo, but I found it too beautiful not to put up. It’s a saddle bill stork.

Little bee-eaters huddled up in the rain.

So many ducks

All in flight

A little bee-eater eating insects from a dried up elephant dung. Roger told me that elephants are not efficient at digesting, so often seeds and insects end up in their dung that little birds and rodents scavenge.

Another bee-eater. I love these colorful birds.

A red crested korhann - strange bird.

Yellow billed storks, colored pink like flamingos from the tiny river shrimp they eat.

Red chested cuckoo - they come with the rains. It rained quite a bit while I was there.

And the small things - a spider eating a butterfly.

Buffels Bay and Lion's Head
