Sunrise

About a week ago, Jay and I both woke up at 4:00am for no real reason. Since we were already up, we decided to take a walk down to the beach to watch the sunrise. Of course, the five dogs joined as well, and we strolled in a quiet procession along the sand down to the beach.

Once there, dawn was breaking, with the sun not yet over the horizon line but the sky beginning to lighten up. We had arrived at the perfect moment to be able to catch the sun as it rose.

The sun began its appearance over the flat Indian Ocean. A heron stood by on a fishing dhow, ready to catch the first warming rays.

I love that you can see the long head feathers in this photo.

The sun appears to drip into the sea as it rises over the water.

Dhows make very good photographic subjects, I find.
