Hi.

Welcome! I am a California girl who has lived in Scotland and Mozambique - follow my adventures here!

Goats and Birds

Goats and Birds

This will be a photo post of the bird life outside our house, as well as some photos of our three goats. The goats were animals we had not planned on having, but here we are. This is their story: the guards here had a female goat who was pregnant, and she had a baby. Then, while he was still very young, she sadly and unexpectedly died, leaving him an orphan. Jay adopted him and raised him while I was in Canada.

Here he is as a baby.

Jay called him Blimmy.

Being raised by a human and the five dogs for companionship, Blim quickly became overly familiar with the house and would come in each morning to call us for breakfast. He would headbutt the door until we opened it, then jump up to the fridge to demand his bread. He would also, once his horns started growing, headbutt us. So, we decided that in order to try to keep him occupied, we would buy him a friend. When she arrived, he just couldn’t believe his eyes and stood stock still staring for about 5 minutes straight - we figured he had forgotten what other goats look like. So, we named her Smitten, since he was so smitten with her. What we didn’t realize was that Smitten was pregnant, and about two months later we now have a third goat: little Vlad.

Now here they are, a little happy family.

As well as watching the goats, we have a huge expanse of bird life. Here are a few of the recent photos we have taken:

A spotted eagle owl.

Doves bathing in the bird bath.

A purple crested turaco

Red billed wood hoopoes - these are very cool and come rarely, but in big groups.

Here they are poking this dead stump to find bugs.
