Mulberries

Mulberries

When we bought our plot of land in 2020, one of the first things we did was to plant a row of ten mulberry trees . When we planted them, they were only about 3-5 inches tall and an inch wide. One didn’t survive the transplant, leaving us with nine, but those nine have flourished. In two years, they have grown over my head and are now producing so many mulberries that we have had to get creative. So, I decided to try making mulberry jam.

This is what the plants looked like 2 years ago.

Here is a handful of mulberries collected yesterday.

Here they are today. It doesn’t show the height, but they are about 6 feet tall and very wide.

Ready and washed for the jam making.

Ingredients all ready to go.

Here it is all boiling and mashing (this masher is now probably permanently stained purple).

Ready to be bottled.

The final product (this is half of what two cups of mulberries made - we split it into two jars to give one to Jay’s parents) as well as little mulberry tart I made to go with it. Delish and very easy!
