When we first moved into this house, about 8 or 10 years ago, we knew no one in the neighborhood. Our first afternoon, as we were moving boxes into the house and organizing our belongings, we heard a knock at the door and found our neighbor, Andy Hawkey, standing there with fresh baked scones and a cheerful greeting of 'Welcome to the neighborhood!' Since that first meeting, the Hawkey family have become some of our very best friends, and we have gone on countless adventures from traveling Europe to strolling up the road. One of the things we all like to do is eat, and, before that can happen, we need to cook. Luckily Andy and my mom are both swell chefs, and one of Andy's specialties is the Italian BLT. She makes homemade focaccia (the very best ever) and then cuts the loaf in half and fills it with lettuce, tomatoes, aioli, balsamic, prosciutto or some similar meat, and cheese, and it's delicious. The Hawkeys were away this year on my birthday, but Andy gave me a fresh made focaccia dough ball for my birthday so we could make our own Italian BLTs. Yay! So, we gave it our best effort. They weren't quite as good as Andy's, but they were pretty good!
